Urinetown: The Musical
- SYNOPSIS -
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, URINETOWN is the hilarious musical comedy that satirises everyone and everything – including musicals themselves!
In a post-modern Gotham-like city, a 20-year drought has led to a ban on private lavatories. The woeful water shortage sees the erection of pay-to-use public toilets, operated and owned by the megalomaniac Caldwell B. Cladwell. Breaking the strict laws against gratuitous public urination sends offenders to the dreaded and mysterious “Urinetown”, never to be seen again.
The poor citizens stage a revolution, led by a handsome hero with the heroically handsome name of Bobby Strong. And in true musical theatre style, he still finds the time and energy to fall hopelessly in love with the honeylicious Hope Cladwell, who (shock! horror! spoiler!) turns out to be the daughter of the dastardly Caldwell B. Cladwell!
Will our hero save the day? Maybe! Will love triumph over hate? Possibly! Will there be a musical tribute to Les Miserables? You betcha!
URINETOWN catapults musical theatre into a new dimension, with its delightful depiction of a dystopian world, a playlist packed with outrageous songs, and a cunning knack of making you laugh ‘til you wet your pants.
