Introduction to Traditional Malay Music - Rentak kita! (Our Beats) [Performance]
- OUTLINE -
Be engaged as Orkestra Sri Temasek introduces Malay music history and Malay music genres and dances such as Inang, Asli, Zapin, Joget and Lambak to the students. After the performance, students will be able to identify and understand how each music genres are inhabited into Singapore and its evolution over the years. They will also be exposed and understand more about the traditional Malay musical instruments through programme. In addition, students will be able to understand the different dance movements that accompanies the respective music styles. Students will also be actively involved in the the dance moves with a mass dance interaction segment conducted by the musicians. Performance can be conducted in English or Malay, depending on the school’s requirement.
- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -
1. To create and increase the awareness towards the Malay music and dance art form 2. To understand the evolution of Malay music in Singapore’s context 3. To identify and heighten their knowledge about the Malay musical instruments. 4. To further engage the students in the arts through the mass dance interaction

- COST -
Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.
The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019-2021 until 31 December 2021.
