Chinese Dance Workshop for Preschool (2019-2020)
- OUTLINE -
There are misconceptions that “Chinese Dance” is all about fans, ribbons, and handkerchiefs. In fact, “Chinese dance” is an umbrella term for dances of Chinese origin. Chinese Dance workshop is an enhanced programme that deepens students’ understanding and imparting basic skills to them through fun and engaging activities. Students will be exposed to the different styles of Chinese dance and learn about the lively music and movement used. This workshop aims to evoke interest and understanding towards Chinese dance, through engaging activities such as, story-telling and sing-along. Students will be guided to explore and create their own movement as well. Optional workshops for pre-school teachers are available. 'Chinese Dance 101 for Preschool Teachers' aims to equip preschool teachers with the fundamental knowledge of Chinese dance in general, as well as giving them sufficient resources to conduct Chinese dance related lesson confidently. Duration of course will be 10 hours at $267.50 per person (inclusive of GST). At least 5 teachers to start the programme.
- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -
At the end of the programme, the students will be able to: a. develop better locomotors coordination; b. have a basic idea of Chinese dance as a cultural arts form; c. express themselves through dance. At the end of the programme, the teacher will be able to: 1. talk about Chinese dance as an art form and how it is relevant in Singapore contexts; 2. identify the different types of Chinese dance; 3. demonstrate and teach the movements of Chinese dance (for Pre-school teachers only)

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.
The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019/2020 until 31 December 2020.
