Let's Learn to Play Chinese Drums!


Chinese drumming is an energetic activity that can boost morale and foster team spirit among students through choreographed music routine. It is a collective action and it is a great way to bond people together. Presented by House of Music, the workshop aims to engage students in music making through Chinese drumming. Students will be able to play and create their own exciting and rhythmic drum pieces that is suitable for performance. Students will get to form groups and perform in front of each other by the end of the 10-session workshops. Students will also learn basic music theory such as rhythm, tempo, and dynamics and learn how to read music rhythmic scores as well.

Using an interactive and light-hearted approach, students will learn through demonstrations and teaching as facilitated by the instructor. The workshop would also cover the various characteristics of the music instrument and how to make use of them to perform.


• To develop an awareness towards Chinese drumming as well as playing techniques on the drums.
• To engage the students in the arts through the development of a sense of appreciation for the art form.
• To learn basic music theory such as rhythm, tempo, dynamics and counting.

• Pursue creative and expressive capacities of students through free-style drumming performance

- COST -

$9 per student per hour per Hour

- $9 per student/ per session (1 hour),
- an additional cost of percussion/drum rental for max 10 weeks applies.
- $500 for instrument transport (2-way)

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.

The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019-2022 until 31 December 2022.
