What is Jazz
- OUTLINE -
Students will enjoy a musical journey of the jazz idiom, along with discovering the political, economic and social landscapes of that time which influenced each unique and distinct style of jazz. Outline: - Introduction – Jazz, the mother of modern music - Blues – the predecessor of Jazz - The rise and fall of Big Band music - Birth of Bebop - Jazz from around the world - Live band performances and explanations between song
- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -
At the end of the programme, students (should) Primary - have enjoyed a simple history lesson through a musical journey - have an awareness and appreciation of the art form - possibly be inspired to learn a musical instrument - have enjoyed a live jazz performance Secondary/Tertiary - gain an understanding of the evolution of modern music - have an awareness and appreciation of the art form - possibly be inspired to learn a musical instrument - have a broader understanding of music and hence be able to pursue creative and expressive capacities with greater complexity, variety and open-mindedness - have enjoyed a live jazz performance

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.
The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019-2021 until 31 December 2021.
