The Art of Subtitling
- OUTLINE -
"The Art of Subtitling" programme is an introductory workshop in which students will learn the basic techniques of translation and creative writing skills, while being immersed in the intricacies of languages (Chinese and English). The workshop will enable them to work on their bilingual skills as well as the craft of creative writing. Subtitles are a ubiquitous part of our daily life in Singapore: We read them in TV drama serials, at the movies and even in Korean music videos! This introductory workshop provides participants an insight into the art of subtitles for TV, in which they are guided to find the “sweet spot” in subtitling through a combination of good translation and perfect timing. Students will learn about the basic craft of translation, creative writing skills, and how to seamlessly match the rhythm of text to moving images.
- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -
