AIM - Teens' Contemporary Dance
- OUTLINE -
“AIM – Teens’ Contemporary Dance” is a programme specially customized to meet the needs of teens. Converge adopts specific teaching techniques catered to engaging today’s teens to help them build interest in Contemporary and Dance in general, all while picking up important skills and values associated with the 21st Century Competencies. The Converge AIM series strives to develop Appreciation, Impart values and skills, and Motivate teens. APPRECIATION – To develop passion for the genre and dance in general, we believe that it is important to guide students in understanding the history of the specific dance genre. With understanding and awareness that goes beyond just its physical form, students enjoy a more holistic appreciation for the art form. IMPART – At Converge, we believe in teaching through dance as much as we believe in teaching dance. At such a moldable age, lessons are specifically crafted to build their dance expertise and technical skills, all while helping students understand and practise key competencies and values in the ways they approach lessons and life. MOTIVATE – We engage our teens with age-appropriate teaching techniques and language, understanding that their needs and preferences can be significantly different from younger students and adults. We adopt team-building activities and techniques in our pedagogy to get teens moving, and to help them find purpose, meaning and motivation in and through dance. Students will pick up Contemporary Dance techniques, including balletic exercises, torso and spine articulation, plie, releve, floorwork and guided improvisation. They will also be introduced to gestural motions and how they have been adopted by Contemporary Dance as a means of storytelling and expressing. These will be incorporated into a choreographed sequence that can be showcased at the end of the programme.

Physical - To be aware of, understand and execute Contemporary Dance techniques and choreography - To progressively build strength, flexibility, dexterity and range of motion - To improve body awareness and control Intellectual - To develop appreciation, interest and passion for Contemporary Dance and Dance in general - To understand history of Contemporary Dance, its ever-changing and evolving nature, and its difference from classical ballet for a holistic learning experience Social-Emotional - To understand and practise social and emotional competencies in line with 21CC through individual tasks and group activities - To understand and practice key values associated with Contemporary Dance, including Self-Expression and Discipline - To understand and practise R3ICH values through showcase preparation

$4.50 per Hour
Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.
The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019/2020 until 31 December 2020.
