Painting Portraits in Pastel


Drawing the face is a daunting challenge to most however, with the right knowledge and skills, anyone can paint a recognizable portrait.

All materials provided. This programme exposes students to great pastel artists and their works, from Degas to local pioneer such as Liu Kang. The learning process would also introduce great artists that specialize in portraitures such as Kathe Kollwitz, Van Gogh and even contemporary artist such as Chuck Close.

Step-by-step guidance and artist demonstrations with exercises programmed to develop confidence through competencies essential in portraiture art.

Sessions will cover the basics of studying the facial structure for drawing. Effective techniques of using dry medium and bad habits to avoid.

Discover the variety of techniques of soft pastel, and complete a pastel portrait by the end of the programme.

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.

The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2019/2020 until 31 December 2020.
