A Sunny Island Called Singapore: A Multicultural Music Movement Experience

- OUTLINE -

Children will be introduced to songs and music that reflect their lives and culture in Singapore – the places we live in, the people we meet and the food we eat. There will be songs in four languages (English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil) and musical activities (singing, movement and instrument play) that are in-line with the MOE Kindergarten Curriculum Framework. This programme aims to develop cultural sensitivity and awareness through songs and dances. A creative music and movement module that is developmentally appropriate for preschoolers to understand diversity, experience our culture and explore our heritage.

(OPTIONAL) Teachers Professional Development workshop. This workshop serves to equip teachers with strategies and skills to conduct music and movement sessions confidently in their classroom. Elements of Music and Movement will be reinforced with practical hands-on activities.

- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -

Children will be able to:
1. Identify elements of music (Rhythm, Beat, Tempo. Dynamics, Form, Pitch).
2. Sing confidently accompanied by actions/ body percussion/ percussion instruments.
3. Find creative ways to work on body percussion and instruments to the song/ music.
4. Explore movements to the various cultural dances (Waltz, Chinese dance, Malay dance and Indian dance)
5. Explore body movements to express ideas and feelings.

(Optional) Teachers Workshop - $2140 for a 7 hour workshop (max 25 teachers)

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.

The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP 2017/2018 until 31 December 2018.
