Tinikling (Bamboo dance)


Tinikling (teeh-Neehk-ling) or bamboo dance is a folk dance from Philippines. Students will be able to appreciate the beauty of this folk dance through different roles. Students will not only develop strong musicality through making the tempo with the bamboos, they will also develop better coordination of their leg movements as they dance along the bamboos. Strong recognition and teamwork can be expected as students have to work in groups.


1. Students will learn about the culture of Philippines and the traditional dance TINIKLING.
2. Students will taught to count music, beat, taps and slide the poles on the ground and against each other. This is to coordinate one or two dancers (Teamwork) who step over and in between the poles in the dance.
3. Students to develop and expand physical movement, agility, rhythmic field while dancing and incorporating teamwork and team spirit
4. Students will be able to do up a mini showcase or present the skills learnt.

Schools may use the Tote Board Arts Grant to subsidise the programme cost. There is a subsidy of up to 50% of the programme cost for mainstream schools, and up to 70% of the programme cost for Special Education Schools.
The Tote Board Arts Grant is not applicable to pre-schools. NAC partners selected pre-school centres to receive funding to purchase Pre-School AEP.

The following programme is approved under NAC-AEP until 31 December 2016.
