NAC-AEP Programme Details

Programme ID: AEP0314041

What is the Chinese Orchestra

The Chinese orchestra, with less than a history of 80 years, will be explored as an artistic concept. In a lecture-demonstration that is educational, accessible and presented with videos clips and sound files, the programme will trace the development of the Chinese orchestra, ranging from the traditional to the contemporary, and its use in schools and arts associations around the world today. It will also deal with the appreciation of Chinese orchestral music and answer questions about certain pieces and their historical significance.

Familiar works played by Chinese orchestras today will be discussed, and the instruments and repertory of the Chinese orchestra will also be expounded on. A Question and Answer session with regard to this art form and its music will complete this engaging and intensive lecture.

At the end of the programme, students should:

Secondary, JC/CI and ITE:
- Develop an appreciation of the Chinese Orchestra to seed engagement in the arts
- Differentiate elements of the Chinese Orchestra at a basic level
- Demonstrate an understanding of the lineage and different instrumental sections of the modern Chinese Orchestra
- Have an awareness of the different applications of the Chinese Orchestra
