Brief n Bold Ten-Minute Playwriting

- OUTLINE -

About Brief & Bold Ten Minute Play Festival offered by Word Forward (WF)

In 2008, Word Forward (WF) collaborated with the internationally renowned Australian brand to launch the Fast and Fresh 10-min Play Festival in Singapore for youth. The resounding success of the festival and the enthusiasm of the young participants and audience alike inspired WF to continue providing an opportunity for young people to write plays, stage, direct and act in them on an annual competitive national platform called Brief & Bold Play Festival held as part of Lit Up Singapore - Asia Pacific Spoken Word Festival in Oct/Nov each year.

Playwriting is an art form that trains individuals to be sensitive to human behaviour, develop empathy for others and critically reflect on their daily observations of life to isolate and expand upon the most significant moments and celebrate them with a live theatre audience.

In this course, participants will discover what it means to write their own ten-minute play through a combination of writing and drama-based activities within a nurturing collaborative workshop environment.

Through a step-by-step process, they will learn about the importance of achieving effective communication through the dramatic medium, developing characters – and indeed, empowering actors – through dialogue and shaping a complete theatrical experience through an appreciation of audience expectations and dramatic structure.

- LEARNING OBJECTIVES -

1) To write, direct and act in a 10-minute original play.

2) To embrace the collaborative nature of group dynamics and peer-to-peer education. Participants learn to appreciate the value of difference, diversity and alternative points of view in any creative endeavour.

3) To enhance overall confidence and self-esteem by giving students opportunities to perform their plays for the public at the Brief n Bold Play Festival held as part of Lit Up Singapore - Asia-Pacific Spoken Word Festival in Oct/Nov each year.
